Human immunodeficiency virus-induced uveitis
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a human T-lymphotropic virus (HTLV), also known as HTLV-III, which can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This virus selectively destroys CD4 cells (helper/inducer lymphocytes), reduces host resistance, and causes opportunistic infections, tumors, and a variety of eye diseases, among which retinitis caused by cytomegalovirus and non-infectious retinal vascular disease are common eye changes.
