Campylobacter enteritis is a gastrointestinal disease caused by Campylobacter infection. Campylobacter has endotoxins that can invade the small and large intestine mucosa to cause acute enteritis, and can also cause outbreaks of diarrhea or collective food poisoning. The incubation period is generally 3 to 5 days, and the pathogenic sites for humans are the jejunum, ileum and colon. The main symptoms are diarrhea and abdominal pain, sometimes fever, occasional vomiting and dehydration. Campylobacter jejuni was isolated from the feces of diarrheal patients by Butzler et al. in 1973, and it is now recognized as one of the main pathogens of human diarrhea. The incidence of Campylobacter jejuni enteritis exceeds that of bacillary dysentery in developed countries, and is almost the same as bacillary dysentery in developing countries.
