Scheuermann's disease is a rigid type of kyphosis (hunchback) deformity of the thoracic or thoracolumbar spine that is common in adolescents. For children diagnosed before skeletal maturity, braces can be used for successful correction in most cases. However, the cause of this disease is often confused with postural kyphosis and cannot be discovered in time, so that it is not discovered or diagnosed until the kyphosis deformity occurs and causes persistent back pain, thus delaying the best prevention and treatment time. When the deformity is severe, especially when non-surgical treatment cannot relieve the pain, surgical treatment is required. Under normal circumstances, Scheuermann's disease is a benign developmental disease, and very few people have serious deformities and clinical symptoms. During the adolescent growth period, untreated Scheuermann's disease can develop into progressive structural kyphosis, especially in those who have trauma and overwork during growth. Common back pain and fatigue often disappear naturally after skeletal maturity. If the final kyphosis deformity does not exceed 75°, except for back pain, the patient generally does not have long-term discomfort, and the back pain is often mild, and few people are disabled.
