Facial neuritis
Idiopathic facial nerve paralysis, also known as facial neuritis, is a peripheral facial palsy caused by an acute nonspecific inflammation of the facial nerve in the facial nerve canal. Facial neuritis is mainly divided into two types: Bell's palsy and geniculate ganglion syndrome (Ramsay Hunt syndrome). The cause of Bell's palsy is not completely clear at present, but it is believed to be caused by a neurotropic virus. Ramsay Hunt syndrome is caused by the herpes zoster virus.
