The partial or complete occlusion of the intestinal cavity caused by the rotation of the colon loop along the long axis of the mesentery with its mesentery as the fixed point is called intestinal volvulus. The twisting is generally clockwise, and obstruction may occur when the twisting is more than 180 degrees. Mild twisting can last less than 1 week (360 degrees), and severe twisting can last up to 2 to 3 weeks. After the onset of the disease, intestinal stenosis and obstruction may occur on the one hand, and strangulation may occur due to compression of the mesentery blood vessels on the other hand. Sigmoid colon volvulus is a closed loop intestinal obstruction. The twisted intestinal loop is often highly dilated. When the intestinal wall is over-expanded, spot-like tension necrosis or perforation may also occur.
