Purulent endophthalmitis
The vitreous body is avascular tissue and is rich in water and protein. Once pathogenic bacteria invade, they can easily multiply and cause inflammation and abscess formation, which is called suppurative endophthalmitis. Only endophthalmitis caused by bacteria or fungi is discussed here. It is the most common suppurative endophthalmitis in clinical practice. It is a dangerous condition, develops rapidly, and causes great damage to eye tissue and visual function. If not treated in time, the inflammation can develop to the sclera, extraocular fascia and orbital tissue, which is called "panophthalmitis". Therefore, it is one of the main diseases that require emergency treatment in ophthalmology. Another type of suppurative endophthalmitis is caused by lens cortical allergy or copper rust disease.
