| Chorionic Gonadotropin |
Chorionic gonadotropin is a gonadotropin secreted by placental trophoblast cells. Its pharmacological effects are similar to those of luteinizing hormone (LH), but its follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)-like effects are minimal. For females, it can promote follicle maturation and ovulation, and transform ruptured follicles into corpus luteum, which can secrete progesterone. For males, it has the effect of interstitial cell-stimulating hormone (ICSH), which can promote the function of seminiferous tubules, especially the activity of testicular interstitial cells, so that they produce androgens, promote the development and maturation of sexual organs and secondary sexual characteristics, promote testicular descent, and promote sperm production.
