Albendazole capsules
Function and Efficacy
This product is a benzimidazole derivative, which is rapidly metabolized into sulfoxide, sulfone alcohol and 2-amine sulfone alcohol in the body. It selectively and irreversibly inhibits the polymerization of the cytoplasmic microtubule system of the parasite's intestinal wall cells, blocks its absorption of various nutrients and glucose, leads to the depletion of endogenous glycogen in the worm, and inhibits the fumarate reductase system, preventing the production of adenosine triphosphate, making it impossible for the worm to survive and reproduce. Similar to mebendazole, this product can also cause the degeneration of the cytoplasmic microtubules of the worm's intestinal cells, and bind to its tubulin, causing intracellular transport blockage, resulting in the accumulation of Golgi endocrine granules, the gradual dissolution of the cytoplasm, and the complete degeneration of the absorbing cells, causing the death of the worm. This product has the effect of completely killing hookworm eggs and whipworm eggs and partially killing ascarid eggs. In addition to killing and expelling various nematodes parasitic in animals, it also has a significant killing and expelling effect on tapeworms and cysticerci. Toxicological tests show that this product is low in toxicity and safe. The oral LD50 of mice is greater than 800mg/kg, and the maximum oral tolerance of dogs is above 400mg/kg. This drug has no effect on the reproductive function of male mice, nor does it have teratogenic effect on female mice. In female rats and rabbits, when a larger dose [30mg/(kg?day)] is used, fetal absorption and bone deformity may occur.

Appearance
This product is a capsule, and the contents are white or off-white powder.
Indication
This product is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic. In addition to being used to treat nematode diseases such as hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, pinworms, and trichinella, it can also be used to treat cysticercosis and echinococcosis.
Usage and Dosage
Oral. 1 Common dosage for adults: For roundworm and pinworm disease, take 400 mg once; for hookworm disease and whipworm disease, take 400 mg once, twice a day, for 3 consecutive days; for trichinosis, take 400 mg once, twice a day, for 7 consecutive days; for cysticercosis, take 20 mg/kg per day according to body weight, divided into 3 times orally, 10 days as a course of treatment, generally 1 to 3 courses of treatment are required. The interval between courses of treatment depends on the condition, usually 3 months; for echinococcosis, take 20 mg/kg per day according to body weight, divided into 2 times orally, for 1 month as a course of treatment, generally more than 5 courses of treatment are required, and the interval between courses of treatment is 7 to 10 days. 2 Dosage for children: The dosage for children under 12 years old is halved.
Adverse Reactions
1. A few cases have digestive tract symptoms such as dry mouth, fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nausea, and upper abdominal discomfort. However, they are all mild and can be relieved on their own without treatment. 2. In the treatment of cysticercosis, especially brain cysticercosis, it is mainly related to the release of foreign proteins due to the death of cysticercosis. It usually occurs 2 to 7 days after taking the medicine, and headache, fever, rash, muscle aches, visual impairment, epileptic seizures, etc. may occur. Appropriate measures must be taken (application of adrenal cortex hormones, intracranial pressure reduction, anti-epileptic treatment, etc.). 3. In the treatment of cysticercosis and echinococcosis, due to the large dosage and long course of treatment, elevated alanine aminotransferase may occur, which usually gradually returns to normal after stopping the drug.
Precautions
1. Patients with proteinuria, suppurative dermatitis and various acute diseases. 2. Patients with severe liver, kidney and heart dysfunction and active ulcer disease. 3. Before surgical removal of ocular cysticercosis.
