Auranofin Tablets
Function and Efficacy
This product is a slow-acting anti-rheumatoid arthritis drug. Pharmacological tests have shown that this product has a certain anti-inflammatory effect. Auranofin 3.86 (gold 1.12) mg/kg was given orally to awake dogs twice a day for 3 consecutive days, and there was no obvious change in the electrocardiogram. Auranofin 15.5 (gold 4.5) mg/kg was introduced into the duodenum of anesthetized dogs. After 1 to 3 hours of administration, the blood gold concentration can reach 0.5?g/ml to 1.0?g/ml, and there is no effect on blood pressure, heart rate and respiration. The mechanism of action of this product against arthritis is still unclear.

Indication
Patients with typical or confirmed active rheumatoid arthritis. Those who have no significant effect or cannot tolerate taking one or more nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can receive auranofin treatment. Auranofin cannot eliminate the bone and joint destruction that has occurred, but it may prevent or slow down further damage to the joints. Because auranofin takes a long time to take effect, an average of 3 months, and sometimes as late as 5 to 6 months, it is advisable to take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) while taking auranofin to relieve the pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis before auranofin takes effect.
Usage and Dosage
Oral administration. The general dosage is 6 mg (2 tablets) of auranofin per day for adults. You can take 2 tablets after breakfast, or 1 tablet each after breakfast and dinner. The initial dosage can also be 3 mg (1 tablet) per day, which can be increased to 6 mg (2 tablets) per day after two weeks. If the effect is not significant after taking it for six months, the dosage can be increased to 9 mg (3 tablets) per day, taken in 3 times. If the effect is still not significant after taking 9 mg (3 tablets) per day for three consecutive months, the medication should be stopped.
Adverse Reactions
1 Common side effects include diarrhea and loose stools, occasionally accompanied by abdominal pain, nausea or other gastrointestinal discomfort, which are usually mild and short-lived, and do not require discontinuation of the drug. 2 Symptomatic treatment can be used if necessary. Other common side effects include rash and itching, which generally do not require discontinuation of the drug, but severe rash requires discontinuation of the drug. Stomatitis and conjunctivitis are also occasionally seen. 3 Foreign data show that a small number of patients may experience a decrease in white blood cell and platelet counts, purpura, simple red blood cell hypoplasia, temporary proteinuria or hematuria, glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome, interstitial pneumonia and corneal and lens gold salt deposition during medication, and occasional mild and transient abnormalities in liver function.
