Tegafur Injection

This product is a derivative of fluorouracil. It is activated by the liver in the body and converted into fluorouracil to exert its anti-tumor activity, interfere with DNA and RNA synthesis, and mainly acts on the S phase. It is a cell cycle-specific drug. The chemotherapy index is twice that of fluorouracil, and the toxicity is only 1/4 to 1/7 of that of fluorouracil.

The chemical name of this product is: 1-(tetrahydro-2-furanyl)-5-fluoro-2,4(1H,3H)-pyrimidinedione. Its structural formula is: Molecular formula: C8H9FN2O3 Molecular weight: 200.17

It is mainly used to treat digestive tract tumors, such as gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, and can also be used for breast cancer.

The daily dose for adults is 800-1000 mg or 15-20 mg/kg per day based on body weight. It is dissolved in 500 ml of 5% glucose injection or 0.9% sodium chloride injection and administered by intravenous drip once a day. The total amount is 20-40 g per course of treatment.

Bone marrow suppression reaction is mild, with a decrease in white blood cells and platelets. Neurotoxic reactions include headache, dizziness, ataxia, mental state changes, etc. A few patients experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and changes in liver and kidney function. Local injection sites have phlebitis, swelling, and pain. Fever, skin itching, and pigmentation are occasionally seen.
