Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate Powder
Function and Efficacy
Potassium-lowering drug. This product is a medicinal sodium cation exchange resin (9.4-11.0% sodium per gram). After oral administration or enema, it can produce ion exchange in the intestines and absorb potassium ions. The principle of potassium-lowering is that after oral administration, in the acidic environment of the stomach, the sodium ions on its molecules are replaced by hydrogen ions to become hydrogen-type resin. When the hydrogen-type resin enters the intestine, it exchanges with potassium, ammonium and other ions in the intestine, so that excess potassium ions in the body are removed.
