Function and Efficacy
It mainly acts on the colon. After oral administration, it is slowly decomposed under the action of the alkaline intestinal fluid of the small intestine to form soluble sodium salt, which stimulates the nerve plexus in the intestinal wall and directly acts on the intestinal smooth muscle to increase intestinal peristalsis. At the same time, it can inhibit the absorption of water in the intestine, so that water and electrolytes accumulate in the colon, producing a laxative effect. Its effect is mild and rarely causes intestinal spasm.
Ingredients
The main ingredient of this product is phenolphthalein, and its chemical name is 3,3-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1(3H)-isobenzofuranone.

Appearance
This product is light red tablets.
Indication
It is used for habitual and stubborn constipation, and can also be used as an intestinal cleanser before colon or rectal endoscopy or enema examination.
Usage and Dosage
Oral administration. Adults: 50-200 mg (1/2-2 tablets) at a time; 2-5 years old: 15-20 mg at a time; 6 years old and above: 25-50 mg (1/4-1/2 tablet) at a time. The dosage can be increased or decreased according to the patient's condition, and should be taken before bedtime.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reactions caused by phenolphthalein are rare in clinical practice, but may occasionally cause dermatitis, drug rash, itching, burning pain, enteritis, bleeding tendency, etc.
Precautions
1. It is contraindicated for patients with appendicitis or rectal bleeding that has not been clearly diagnosed. 2. It is contraindicated for patients with congestive heart failure or hypertension. 3. It is contraindicated for patients with fecal blockage or intestinal obstruction.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: Use with caution in young children, and not for infants. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: Use with caution in pregnant women, and not for lactating women. Precautions for the elderly: Not yet clear.
Drug Interactions
If this product is used together with alkaline drugs such as sodium bicarbonate and magnesium oxide, it can cause discoloration of stool.
