Different concentrations have different effects; 0.2% has an antibacterial effect; 1% has a bactericidal effect, which is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria; 1.3% can kill fungi, and 5% can kill tuberculosis within 24 hours; a dilute solution can paralyze sensory nerve endings and exert a local anesthetic effect; at a concentration of 0.5-1.5%, it has an antipruritic effect, but is ineffective against spores and viruses.
Ingredients
C6H6O.
Indication
Skin sterilization and antipruritic, instrument disinfection, excrement treatment.
Usage and Dosage
For disinfection of instruments and treatment of excrement, 3-5% aqueous solution. For skin sterilization and antipruritic, apply 2% ointment to the affected area. For otitis media, use 1-2% phenol glycerol ear drops 3 times a day. This product has strong tissue penetration and is only used on a small area of skin. High concentration external use can cause tissue damage and even necrosis. For surface aqueous solution, the concentration should not exceed 2%, and it should not be sealed after external use; avoid application on damaged skin and wounds
Adverse Reactions
It has been reported that the use of phenol disinfectants to clean cradles and mattresses in nurseries with poor ventilation has caused neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, which has been proven to be fatal to infants. Ingestion of this product can cause extensive local tissue corrosion, causing pain, nausea, vomiting, sweating and diarrhea. Short-term excitement may occur, followed by loss of consciousness, central nervous system depression, circulatory and respiratory failure, pulmonary edema, liver and kidney necrosis and functional failure. It has been reported that oral administration of less than 1g can cause death, and 10% aqueous solution is corrosive. When applied topically, phenol can produce a local anesthetic effect. A 5% phenol solution used on an undamaged epidermal surface can also cause warmth and tingling, and can eventually lead to complete local anesthesia. The 5% solution is also highly irritating to exposed tissues and can cause necrosis. There have been reports of life-threatening conditions when phenol is used on wounds.
