Atenolol
Indication
This product is a cardioselective β-receptor blocker with no membrane stabilizing effect and no endogenous sympathomimetic activity. It is generally used for sinus tachycardia and premature beats, and can also be used for hypertension, angina pectoris and glaucoma.
Adverse Reactions
Atenolol is used to treat angina pectoris in clinical remission. It is a selective β1 adrenergic receptor blocker that does not have membrane stabilizing effects and endogenous sympathomimetic activity. However, it does not inhibit the bronchodilator effect of isoproterenol. At the same time, the side effects of atenolol are gradually being recognized by people. The mechanism of atenolol in lowering blood pressure and reducing myocardial oxygen consumption is the same as that of propranolol (therefore, the symptoms caused by the side effects of atenolol need to be combined with other medications). Large-scale clinical trials have confirmed that atenolol can reduce the mortality rate of acute myocardial infarction within 0 to 7 days. The therapeutic dose has no significant inhibitory effect on myocardial contractility. At the same time, the side effects of long-term use of atenolol are also very harmful to the human body. What makes men most headache is that it may cause impotence.
Precautions
It is contraindicated in patients with severe sinus bradycardia, atrioventricular block, heart failure and pregnant women.
