Propylthiouracil Enteric-coated Tablets
Function and Efficacy
Pharmacological action: This product is a thiourea antithyroid drug that mainly inhibits the synthesis of thyroxine. Its mechanism of action is to inhibit thyroid endoperoxidase, prevent the oxidation of iodide taken into the thyroid gland and the coupling of tyrosine, thereby hindering the synthesis of thyroid hormone T4 and triiodothyronine T3. Since this product cannot directly counteract thyroid hormones, it can only produce therapeutic effects after the thyroid hormones that have been produced are exhausted, so the effect is slow. In addition, this product also inhibits the deiodination of T4 in peripheral tissues to produce T3.
