Pirfenidone is a drug used for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. It inhibits FGFR, EGFR, PDGFR, TGF-β, thereby slowing tumor cell proliferation.
Pirfenidone is a pyridone that is 2-pyridone substituted at positions 1 and 5 by phenyl and methyl groups respectively. An anti-inflammatory drug used for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. It has a role as a non-narcotic analgesic, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and an antipyretic.|Pirfenidone is an orally active small molecule drug that may inhibit collagen synthesis, down regulate production of multiple cytokines and block fibroblast proliferation and stimulation in response to cytokines. Pirfenidone has demonstrated activity in multiple fibrotic conditions, including those of the lung, kidney and liver. Elevations in serum enzyme levels during pirfenidone therapy are not uncommon, but it has yet to be implicated in cases of clinically apparent liver injury with jaundice.|Pirfenidone is an orally active synthetic antifibrotic agent structurally similar to pyridine 2,4-dicarboxylate. Pirfenidone inhibits fibroblast, epidermal, platelet-derived, and transforming beta-1 growth factors, thereby slowing tumor cell proliferation. This agent also inhibits DNA synthesis and the production of mRNA for collagen types I and III, resulting in a reduction in radiation-induced fibrosis. (NCI04)
