  • Description

Glycol (ethylene glycol) also known as "glycol", "1, 2 - ethyl diol", EG for short. Chemical formula (CH2OH) 2, is the most simple of glycol. Ethylene glycol is colorless, odorless, sweet-smelling liquid, toxic to animals and human lethal dose of 1.6 g/kg. Ethylene glycol can miscibility with water, acetone, but smaller solubility in the ethers. Used as a solvent, antifreeze, and synthesis of polyester raw materials. Ethylene glycol polymer polyethylene glycol (PEG) is a kind of phase transfer catalyst, also used in cell fusion; The nitric acid ester is a kind of explosive.

    Physical properties editor

Appearance and properties: colorless, sweet, sticky liquid

    Vapor pressure: 0.06 mmHg (0.06 mm hg) / 20 ℃

    Viscosity: 25.66 mPa) s (16 ℃) [2]

Solubility: with water/ethanol/acetone/acetic acid glycerol pyridine miscibility, slightly soluble in ether, insoluble in petroleum hydrocarbon and oil, can dissolve calcium/zinc chloride, chlorine, sodium/potassium carbonate, potassium chloride/potassium iodide, potassium hydroxide inorganic substances, etc.

    Surface tension: 46.49 mN/m (20 ℃)

    Ignition point: 418 ℃

    Heat of combustion: 1180.26 KJ/mol

Under 25 degrees Celsius, dielectric constant is 37

At high concentration easy absorption of moisture

    Use the editor

Is mainly used for making polyester, polyester, polyester resin absorption, wet agent, plasticizer, surface active agent, synthetic fiber, cosmetics and explosives, and used as a dye, ink and other solvents, mixed engine antifreeze, gas dehydrant, manufacturing resin, can also be used for tracing paper, fiber, leather, adhesive wetting agents. Can produce PET synthetic resin, fiber grade PET polyester fiber, bottle grade PET used to make water bottles and so on. Can also produce alkyd resin, glyoxal, etc, also used as antifreeze. Besides used as automotive antifreeze, also used for industrial cooling conveyor, general call for cooling, at the same time, also can be like water used as condensing agent.

Ethylene glycol methyl ether series products are the excellent performance of advanced organic solvent, as the printing ink, industrial cleaning agents, coating (nitrocellulose lacquer, varnish, enamel), copper clad solvent and thinner, printing and dyeing, etc; Can be used as a pesticide intermediates, pharmaceutical intermediates and synthetic brake fluid, such as chemical products of raw materials; As electrolytes used in electrolytic capacitor, leather chemical dye, etc. Used for textile auxiliaries, dyes, synthetic liquid and fertilizer and desulfurizer in refining production of raw materials, etc.

That should be noticed in ethylene glycol used as load when the refrigerant:

    1. Its freezing point changes with the concentration of ethylene glycol in aqueous solution, the concentration below 60%, the higher concentration of ethylene glycol in aqueous solution freezing point depression, but the concentration of more than 60%, with the increase of concentration of ethylene glycol, its freezing point is on the rise, and rise with the increase of concentration and viscosity. When the concentration of 99.9%, its freezing point up to 13.2 ℃, which is concentrated antifreeze mother liquid (antifreeze), an important reason why cannot be used directly, must attract the attention of the user.

    2. Glycol containing hydroxyl, long-term work under 80 degrees - 90 degrees Celsius, acid, glycol will be oxidized into ethanol was oxidized to oxalic acid, again, the oxalic acid, oxalic acid, contains two carboxyl. Oxalic acid and its by-products will affect the central nervous system first, then the heart, and then affect the kidneys. If no appropriate treatment, absorb excessive ethylene glycol can lead to death. Ethylene glycol oxalic acid, damage to equipment corrosion and leakage. In the preparation of antifreeze, therefore, also must have a preservative, to prevent the corrosion of steel, aluminum and the formation of scale.

    Packaging suitable to edit

Packed in galvanized iron drum, 100 kg or 200 kg a barrel. When storing should be sealed, long-term storage nitrogen seal, moistureproof, fire prevention, prevent frostbite. According to provisions of flammable chemicals shipping.

    Toxicology environment editor

    Toxicity: belong to low toxicity.

Acute toxicity: LD508.0 ~ 15.3 g/kg (through the mouth) in mice; 5.9 ~ 13.4 g/kg (through the mouth) of rats; 1.4 ml/kg (through the mouth, to death)

Subacute and chronic toxicity: rats inhaled 12 mg/m3 (continuous) eight days after 2/15 animal corneal opacity, blindness; Inhaled 40% glycol mixture 9/28 people appear black-out; Inhaled 40% glycol mixture is heated to 105 ℃ repeated inhalation of 14/38 people nystagmus, 5/38 people lymphocytes increased.

Dangerous features: open flame, high fever or contact with antioxidant, has caused the risk of burning explosion. If encounter high fever, container pressure increase, is in danger of cracking and explosion.

Combustion products (decomposition) : carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and water.
