INTRODUCTION:

　　Name in English： Taurine（2-Aminoethyl sulfonic acid）

　　Molecular formula： C2H7NSO3 

　　Descriptions: Taurine is white crystal or crystalline powder, odorless, taste slightly bitter. Aqueous solution PH value is 4.1~5.6, melting point 300℃. It is soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, ether, acetone. Natural Taurine exists in ox-galls etc. Taurine is beneficial to infant brain-boosting, nerve conduction, visual function, calcium absorption, digestion and absorption of lipid materials.

    Applications:

　　1.In foodstuff aspect: Taurine is used as nutrition enhancer. a. Used in dairy products, infant food, cereal products, bean product, compound MSG, enriched beverage (0．3～o．5g/kg), milk drinks, pinocytosis (0．1～0．5g／kg)．b. Taurine is specially suitable for non-breast fed infants and as nutrition supplement for new mothers (breast milk contains 3.3～6.2mg／IOOml Taurnine. In cow milk it’s only 0.7mg/1OOml)．c．Taurine is suitable to be nutrition supplement for mental workers. It is beneficial to brain development and memory (0.3～0.5g/day). Vegetarians who do not eat dairy products and eggs can take Taurine as supplement, 3 times a day, 2g each time, total usage 6g per day.

2.In pharmaceutical aspect: a．Taurine is used to prevent heart failure, ischemic heart disease, arrhythmia (esp. level Ⅱ ischemic cardiac arrhythmia), myocarditis, epilepsy, convulsions, hypertension, gallbladder fiber, diabetes, cirrhosis, failures etc. b．To cure cold, fever, neuralgia, tonsillitis, bronchitis, rheumatic arthritis and drug poisoning etc.

3.In forage aspect: ：a, Taurine is used as nutrition supplement for pets. It’s essential amino acid to cats because it cannot be synthesized by cats from other amino acids. 0.2％is needed in cat food to ensure normal growth and fecundity. b, Taurine can be widely used in aquatic feed. It can improve quality of aquatic products and nutrition contents.

1.According to stipulations in GB14880-94, 0.3~0.5g/kg Taurine can be used in dairy products, infant food, cereal products, enriched beverage; 0.1~0.5g/kg can be used in milk drinks and pinocytosis.　　2.GB2760-2002（g/kg）： Mixing liquor, 0.1~0.5；Jelly, soymilk powder, 0.3~0.5；Soya-bean milk, 0.06~0.1； Children oral liquid, 4.0~8.0；Fruit juice (fruit flavored)，0.4~0.6；Cocoa powder and other flavored nutritional powdered drinks, 110~140mg/100g（usage of corresponding nutritional milk drinks can be reduced according to dilution factor）.
