Chloroauric acid is the inorganic compound with the formula HAuCl4. It is an orange-yellow solid, a common precursor to other gold compounds and an intermediate in the purification of gold metal. Commercial samples have the composition HAuCl4•n H2O with n = 3 or 4.

Chloroauric acid Usage :

It can be used for partial gold plating of semiconductor and integrated circuit lead frame, and gold plating of printed circuit board, electronic connector and other electrical contact components. Also can make red glass. Used as an analytical reagent for microanalysis of rubidium and cesium and measurement of alkaloid composition. Also used for photographic materials.

Chloraurate salts, especially sodium chloraurate Na[AuCl4] (prepared from the reaction of AuCl3 with NaCl), can replace toxic mercury (II) salts as catalysts for alkyne reactions.

At the same time, chloro-auric acid plays an important role in the preparation of nanoscale gold, and the fluorescent nano-gold produced by chloro-auric acid is usually directly reduced by reducing agent, which has an important application in analytical chemistry.
