  • Description

The Cerium metal is silver gray and massive, and cerium is very rich in rare earth. Its chemical characteristic is that it has two valence states, namely + 3 cerium state and + 4 cerium state. Cerium is a non trivalent rare earth ion which is stable in aqueous solution. Therefore, it is a strong acidic and strong oxidizing agent. Cerium state is very similar to other trivalent rare earths. This product is a high-purity metal cerium prepared for the pharmaceutical and organic synthesis catalytic fields by rare earth capital Baotou, which is rich in lanthanum and cerium resources. The preparation technology of metal cerium has completely independent intellectual property rights.

    Air and Water Reactions:

Finely divided cerium powder is pyrophoric [Bretherick 1979 p. 170-171]. Can react vigorously if exposed to water or moist air and will generate flammable fumes.

    Reactive Group:

    Metals, Elemental and Powder, Active

    Reactivity Alerts:

    Strong Reducing Agent

    Reactivity Profile:

CERIUM is a strong reducing agent. Resembles aluminum in its chemical properties. [Lewis]. Reactivity is enhanced by a state of high physical subdivision, as in TURNINGS OR GRITTY POWDER. Attacked by dilute and concentrated mineral acids and alkalis with the generation of flammable gases. Readily oxidized by moist air at room temperature. Reacts with zinc with explosive violence. Gives very exothermic reactions with antimony or bismuth. Reacts violently with phosphorus at 400-500°C [Mellor 8, Supp. 3:347 1971].
