Pioglitazone hydrochloride (112529-15-4) is a thiazolidinedione insulin sensitizer, the main mechanism of action is to reduce insulin resistance, rather than stimulate insulin secretion. It activates g receptors by activating peroxidase proliferators, regulates transcription of many insulin responsive genes, enhances insulin sensitivity in muscle and adipose tissue, that is, enhances glucose non-oxidative metabolism in skeletal muscle, inhibits gluconogenesis in liver, and ultimately reduces insulin resistance.
