Polyols and polyacids undergo polycondensation reactions, resulting in a polymer backbone containing a large number of ester groups (-COO-), which is called polyester. In the coating industry, polyester resins modified with fatty acids or oils are called alkyd resins, and polyesters containing unsaturated double-bond Chemicalbook on macromolecular chains are called unsaturated polyesters. Alkyd resin is a category of polyester resin, which refers to polyester resin prepared by polycondensation reaction with polyols and polyacids modified by fatty acids (or vegetable oils), and the molecular structure is based on the ester of polyols and the side chain of fatty acid esters.

Alkyd resin is one of the most widely used synthetic resins in the coating industry, alkyd resin as a film-forming substance can be made into varnish, color paint, can be made into general paint, can also produce industrial paint. According to the oil quality and oil degree of alkyd resin, it can be summarized into three uses, (1) dry oil alkyd resin. Automatic oxidation into film in the air, can be made into a variety of varnishes, pigments and various coatings, has become a very important class of coatings in the coating Chemicalbook industry. (2) Cooperate with amino resin to make amino alkyd baking paint; In combination with urea-formaldehyde resin, it can be used as a furniture paint catalyzed by acid, and can also be combined with polyisocyanates to make two-component polyurethane coatings. (3) Alkyd resin as a plasticizer and thermoplastic resin combination, such as nitro paint, ethylcellulose, chlorinated rubber, perchloroethylene resin, etc., to improve the performance of volatile coatings.
