      Description  


    3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, also known as KH-560, A-187 or γ-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, is a colorless, viscous liquid with a mild odor. It is a silane coupling agent that is used to improve the adhesion of resins to glass, metal, and other surfaces. It is also used to reinforce glass fibers and improve the wet strength of composites.
    3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane has three methoxy groups that can react with hydroxyl groups on the surface of a substrate. This reaction forms a covalent bond between the silane and the substrate, which provides a strong and durable bond. The glycidyl group on the silane can also react with epoxy resins, which forms a cross-linked network that further enhances the adhesion properties of the silane.
    3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane is a versatile silane coupling agent that is used in a wide variety of applications. It is a common ingredient in composites, adhesives, and sealants. It is also used in the treatment of glass fibers to improve their mechanical properties.

      Features  


    ❶ KH-560 is a bifunctional silane possessing a reactive organic epoxide and hydrolysable inorganic methoxysilyl groups. The dual nature of its reactivity allows it to bind chemically to both inorganic materials (e.g. glass, metals, fillers) and organic polymers (e.g. thermoplastics, thermosets or elastomers) thus functioning as adhesion promoter, cross- linker, and/or surface modifier.

    ❷ The use of KH-560 as a coupling agent in mineral-filled plastics improves filler dispersibility, reduces its sedimentation tendency and greatly lowers the resin's viscosity. In addition, it leads to higher filler loading and a marked increase in water (vapor) resistance, as well as resistance to acids and bases.

    ❸ As a component of adhesives and sealants, KH-560 improves both adhesion to the substrate and mechanical properties such as flexural strength, tensile strength and modulus of elasticity.

    ❹ It is a clear, colorless low-viscosity liquid with a slight terpentine-like odor. It is soluble in alcohols, ketones and aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons.


      Applications  


    It is mainly used to improve the bonding performance of organic and inorganic materials, such as the treatment of glass fiber in FRP and silicone filler in plastic, rubber, paint and coating. It is also used in adhesives to increase the bonding performance. Its applicable resins include epoxy, phenolic, melamine, polysulfide polyurethane, polystyrene, etc.

    1. KH-560 is an essential ingredient in the products of many industries. 
    ◆ Glass fiber/glass fabric composites: as a finish or a size ingredient. ◆ Foundry resins: as an additive to polyurethane resins. ◆ Sealants and adhesives: as a primer or additive. ◆ Mineral filled composite: for pretreat-ment of fillers and pigments  or as an additive to the polymer.
    ◆ Paints and coatings: as an additive and asa primer for improving adhesion 
    to the substrate, especially glass and metal. ◆ Improved shelf life over aminosilanes in polyurethanes.

    2. Important functional effects that can be achieved through the use of KH-560 include:
    ◆ Improved mechanical properties, such as flexural strength, tensile strength,  impact strength and modulus of elasticity. ◆ Improved moisture and corrosion resistance.
    ◆ Improved electrical properties, such as dielectric constant, volume resistivity.  ◆ Enhanced electrical properties of epoxy based electronic encapsulant and  package -ing materials, resulting from improved bonding between resin and  substrate or filler.

    3. KH-560 can also improve such processing properties as:
    ◆ Rheological behavior (i.e. viscosity reduction) and Newtonian behavior. ◆ Increased filler dispersion and loading.
