Geraniol is used as a basic raw material to synthesize other products:

The group derived from geraniol after removing the hydroxyl group is called geranyl. Geranyl pyrophosphate (GPP) and geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP) are important intermediates in the cholesterol biosynthesis process. product.

Geraniol is converted into the cyclic monoterpene α-terpineol in acidic solution. When heated in the presence of a copper catalyst, geraniol can be rearranged into citronellal, and citronellal can be reduced to citronellol.

Applications of geraniol in perfumery:

Geraniol and its ester derivatives are widely used as daily flavors. It is the main agent of rose flavors and can be used in fruity flavors such as strawberry, peach, apple, orange, and pineapple, and food flavors such as ginger and cinnamon, also used to prepare geraniol esters (such as geranyl acetate, geranyl formate), citral, vanillin, vanillyl alcohol, vitamin A, ionone and hydroxyvanillin,
