    Rh2 is a ginsenoside found in the genus Ginseng, and is a dammarane-type ginsenodiol saponin. It is substituted with dammarane hydroxyl groups at the 3β, 12β and 20 pro-S sites, converted to the corresponding β-glucosides, and a double bond is introduced at the 24-25 site.

    20(R)-Ginsenoside Rh2, a matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitor, acts as a cellular antiproliferative agent. It has anticancer effects by blocking cell proliferation and causing G1-phase blockade. 20(R)-Ginsenoside Rh2 induces apoptosis and possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. 20(R)-Ginsenoside Rh2 inhibited the replication and proliferation of mouse and human γ-herpesvirus 68 (MHV-68), with IC50 of 2.77 μM against murine MHV-68. The IC50 for mouse MHV-68 was 2.77 μM.
