2-hydroxyvaleric acid is a colorless liquid with the formula C6H12O3 that is commonly used in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical manufacturing. It is irritating and harmful if inhaled, ingested or absorbed through the skin. 2-hydroxyvaleric acid can also be used as a solvent. In chemical reactions, 3, 5-dihydroxy-carboxylic acid (or the formation of lactone ring) is an essential pharmacophore, and after the lactone ring structure is hydrolyzed, 3, 5-dihydroxy-carboxylic acid can be formed to take effect. In addition, erythrocyte delta-amino-gamma-ketovalerate dehydratase is a medical test that asseses erythrocyte function by measuring erythrocyte delta-amino-gamma-ketovalerate dehydratase content (see related literature)
