Description

Colorless orthorhombic crystals or white crystals. Odorless. Boiling point 783℃. Relative density 2.55. Soluble in nitric acid, slightly soluble in water. It loses 6 crystal waters at 40°C and becomes anhydrous.
Used as wheat flour treatment agent and dough conditioner in the food industry. When making bread, it is added to wheat flour as a quick-acting oxidant for the dough. It is also used as a substitute for oral detergent, deodorant, and preservative iodoform.
Calcium iodate is an excellent variety of food and feed additives to supplement iodine sources. It is non-hygroscopic, has good chemical stability, and does not show any change when mixed with a variety of trace element additives. It is determined by the U.S. Food Chemicalbook and Drug Administration (FDA) "Recognized as safe" food and feed additives. In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used to prepare mouthwash, iodoform substitutes and trace element additives for nutritional drugs; it can also be used as a deodorant.
