The simple structure of nitrophenol is NO2C6H4OH. There are three isomers, adjacent, inter, and pair, all colorless to slightly yellow crystals, with a sweet aroma.

Used as an indicator, intermediate for synthetic dyes and other substances. All isomers are readily absorbed by the skin and lungs, and are often excreted from the urine as chelates (nitrophenol glucuronide).
