	Anhydrous lithium iodide is a white solid with a density of 4.076g/cm3, melting point 449℃, boiling point 1171℃, easily soluble in water, methanol, ethanol, acetone, and corrosive to glass and ceramics when melted. Lithium iodide solid is easy to dissolve, the product is mostly lithium iodide trihydrate, molecular formula LiI·3H2O, molecular weight 187.89, white Chemicalbook crystal, density 3.494g/cm3. Lithium iodide trihydrate is unstable, easily oxidized by light or in the air and turns yellow (elemental iodine). Lithium iodide trihydrate dissolves in crystal water at 70.5℃, water loss at 75-80℃ becomes dihydrate, water loss at 80-120℃ becomes monohydrate, and water loss above 300℃ becomes anhydrous lithium iodide.

Crystallise it from hot water (0.5mL/g) by cooling in a CaCl2-ice EtOH or from an acetone-Dry-Ice bath. Dry it under a vacuum over P2O5 for 1hour at 60o and then at 120o. It is deliquescent and should be stored in a tightly stoppered vessel in the dark.
