β-propyl acid is a β-amino acid, a component of pantothenic acid and a rate-limiting amino acid in the biosynthesis of histidine antioxidant dipeptide carnosine and anserine carnosine. White diamond crystal, slightly sweet. Soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in ether and acetone.
