    Vancomycin is used for serious bacterial infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to this drug when penicillins and cephalosporins are ineffective for diseases such as sepsis, endocarditis, pneumonia, pulmonary abscess, osteomyelitis, meningitis, and enterocolitis, or when penicillins and cephalosporins cannot be tolerated by patients.
