Nature:
2-deoxyd-ribose (also known as 2-deoxydehydroribose) is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in DNA molecules. It differs from regular D-ribose in the absence of an oxygen atom.

2-deoxyd-ribose is chemically similar to D-ribose, but it lacks an oxygen atom and has slightly different chemical properties. It is a white crystalline solid, soluble in water and stable in living organisms.

Purpose:
2-deoxyd-ribose plays an important role in biology as one of the nucleotide units that make up DNA molecules. The phosphodiester bond in the DNA molecule connects the phosphate groups between 2-deoxyd-ribose and nucleotides, forming the helix structure of DNA. This structure allows DNA to store and transmit genetic information.
