Zirconium Oxynitrate, commonly known as Zirconyl Nitrate, CAS No. 13826-66-9 (anhydrous) / 14985-18-3 (hydrate), EC number 237-529-9, molecular formula ZrO(NO₃)₂·xH₂O. It appears as white or off-white hygroscopic crystalline solid, freely soluble in water, forming acidic aqueous solution. The solid decomposes under heating without melting, releasing nitrogen oxide fumes.
Zirconium oxynitrate is a cost-effective zirconium precursor material. Upon thermal calcination, it converts to high-purity zirconium dioxide, making it widely applied in sol-gel technology, nano-zirconia synthesis, mixed oxide catalyst supports (Ce-Zr composite oxides), ferroelectric thin films, advanced ceramics and metal surface treatment. It also works as analytical reagent for fluoride and potassium determination, raw material for manufacturing other zirconium compounds, and additive for refractory and luminescent materials.
We supply Zirconium Oxynitrate in multiple purity grades, with strict control on zirconium content, hafnium ratio, heavy metal impurities and insoluble residues. Flexible packaging options including 25kg drums and small laboratory packages. Custom specifications, COA, TDS and SDS documents can be provided upon request. Stable bulk shipment and reliable lead time for global industrial, research and ceramic customers.

4.1 Description of first aid measures
    • Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air. If breathing difficulty or cough persists, seek medical advice.
    • Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing immediately. Rinse affected skin with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical help if irritation continues.
    • Eye contact: Flush eyes continuously with clean running water for minimum 15 minutes, hold eyelids open. Seek medical attention.
    • Ingestion: Do NOT induce vomiting. Rinse mouth with water. Call a physician.
4.2 Most important symptoms and effects

Dust irritates eyes, skin and respiratory tract.
4.3 Indication of immediate medical attention

    Treat symptomatically.

    SECTION 5: Fire-fighting measures

5.1 Suitable extinguishing media: Water spray.

Unsuitable extinguishing media: Dry powder, foam or CO₂ (oxidiser can sustain combustion).
5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance

Oxidising solid, accelerates burning of combustible materials. Upon heating / fire, toxic nitrogen oxide (NOₓ) fumes are released.
    5.3 Advice for firefighters

Wear full fire resistant protective suit and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Cool intact containers with water spray. Prevent contaminated fire run-off entering drains or waterways.

    SECTION 6: Accidental release measures

6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Evacuate non-essential personnel. Avoid dust cloud formation. Wear full PPE. Keep away from combustible materials.
    6.2 Environmental precautions

Prevent spill entering sewer, surface water and soil.
    6.3 Containment and cleaning up

Small spill: Collect dry material with inert non-combustible absorbent. Do not use sawdust, paper or organic absorbents. Transfer to closed labelled waste container. Rinse residue area with water.
    6.4 Reference to other sections

See Section 8 (Exposure controls) and Section13 (Disposal).

    SECTION 7: Handling and storage

    7.1 Precautions for safe handling

Minimise dust generation. Use local exhaust ventilation. Never mix with organics, reducing agents, metal powders. Avoid heat and ignition sources. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
    7.2 Conditions for safe storage

Store in tightly sealed containers, cool, dry and well ventilated warehouse. Protect from moisture (strongly hygroscopic). Separate storage away from combustibles, reducing substances and strong bases.
    7.3 Specific end use(s): Refer to Section1.2
