      Product Detail

The structural characteristics of fullerene C60 determine that it has special physical and chemical properties and can be widely used in many disciplines. For example, alkali metal atoms can bond with C60 to form "ionic" compounds and show very good superconducting properties, and transition metal fullerene C60 compounds show good redox properties. C60 can be transformed into diamond under high pressure, opening up a new source of diamond. The water-soluble host-guest complex formed by C60, cyclodextrin and cycloaromatic hydrocarbons will play an important role in supramolecular chemistry and biomimetic chemistry. Catalysts based on fullerene C60 can be used to synthesize materials that were previously impossible to synthesize or to synthesize existing materials more efficiently. The property of carbon that is easy to process into fine fibers is likely to develop high-temperature superconducting materials with better performance than existing ceramic superconductors. The discovery and research of tubular fullerenes is likely to make this super-strong, low-density material used in the fuselage of new aircraft. Fullerenes have different properties of gas absorption, and it may be used to remove impurity gases in natural gas. C60 ion beams bombard heavy hydrogen targets, which is expected to be used in molecular beam induced nuclear fusion technology. C60 and C70 solutions have light-limiting properties and can be used as light threshold devices and strong light protectors in digital processors. PVK doped with a mixture of C60 and C70 exhibits very good photoconductivity and has the potential to be used in electrostatic printing. Si has also been found to form a fullerene-like structure and is expected to become a new semiconductor component material. So far, fullerene atomic clusters and their derivatives have been involved in many fields such as life chemistry, organic chemistry, material chemistry, inorganic chemistry, polymer science, and catalytic chemistry, and can be used in composite materials, building materials, surface coatings, rocket materials, etc. Although its widespread application is not a short-term process, as people continue to understand it, it is believed that various applications based on C60 will have broader application prospects.

    ECHEMI Editorial Reference
    black to brown crystalline powder
C60 fullerene is a fullerene.|Buckyball is a nanoparticle characterized by a spherical geometry and hollow interior that is comprised of 60 carbon atoms. This configuration is the most common type of fullerene.|A polyhedral CARBON structure composed of around 60-80 carbon atoms in pentagon and hexagon configuration. They are named after Buckminster Fuller because of structural resemblance to geodesic domes. Fullerenes can be made in high temperature such as arc discharge in an inert atmosphere.
