Diazo salts refer to salts containing diazo groups (- N+≡ N). Dry diazonium salts are unstable and prone to explosion when heated or shaken, but there are exceptions, such as stable diazonium salts, such as fluoroborate diazonium salts, pyrazole diazonium internal salts, and triphenylene diazonium salts. Diazonium salts are generally prepared by diazotization of aromatic amines.
