Nature:
Colorless crystal, slightly hygroscopic. It is soluble in methanol, ethyl ketone, acetic acid, ethyl acetate and ether, but almost insoluble in hydrocarbon solvents. Non-flammable, odorless, low toxicity, strong biodecomposition, high water solubility, is almost non-volatile organic synthesis. Subjected to high thermal decomposition, the release of irritating smoke. The powder and air can form an explosive mixture, and when it reaches a certain concentration, it will explode when it meets Mars.

Uses:

As a cleaning agent, it can fully react with the rust scale, calcium salt and magnesium salt in the equipment to achieve the purpose of scaling, and it is easy to remove the calcium carbonate scale and iron scale, with good treatment effect. The corrosion to the material is very low, and the precipitation of organic acid iron will not occur during cleaning. Chemical cleaning with glycolic acid is less dangerous and easy to operate.

Preparation:
The glycolic acid is synthesized by the reaction of chloroacetic acid with sodium hydrohydride, esterified by methanol under the action of sulfuric acid, and then hydrolyzed. Or formaldehyde and carbon monoxide in the presence of acid catalysts such as sulfuric acid or boron trifluoride, condensation to produce glycolic acid.

Precautions for safe handling

NO open flames. Handling in a well ventilated place. Wear suitable protective clothing. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid formation of dust and aerosols. Use non-sparking tools. Prevent fire caused by electrostatic discharge steam.

Dry. Well closed. Separated from food and feedstuffs and strong oxidants. Store in an area without drain or sewer access.

DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

Recycle to process, if possible. Consult your local regional authorities. You may be able to dissolve or mix material with a combustible solvent and burn in a chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and scrubber system. Observe all federal, state and local regulations when disposing of the substance.
