Metacresol

Chemical properties: Colorless or light yellow flammable liquid. With phenol odor. Soluble in about 40 times water (the solubility in water is 2.5% at 40°C and 5.5% at 100°C). Soluble in caustic alkali solution and common organic solvents. Uses: GB2760-1996 stipulates that it is a permitted edible flavoring. Uses: Metacresol, also known as metacresol, is mainly used as a pesticide intermediate to produce insecticides such as fenitrothion, fenthion, cypermethrin and pyrethroid alcohols, and some meta-phenoxybenzaldehyde. Uses: Mainly used as a pesticide intermediate to produce insecticides such as fenitrothion, fenthion, cypermethrin, and dichlorophenoxy ether permethrin. It is also an intermediate for color films, resins, plasticizers and spices. Uses: Metacresol can be used as an analytical reagent, organic synthesis, bactericide, mildew inhibitor, and developer. Production methods: Foreign countries mainly use the synthetic Chemicalbook method, and it can also be separated from the mixed cresols by-products of coking, oil shale distillation and city gas. Meta-cresol and para-cresol can be separated by azeotropic method, urea method, dissociated benzene method, sulfonation hydrolysis method, phenol crystallization method, alkylation method and other methods. 1. Toluene and propylene generate isopropyl toluene under the action of aluminum chloride, and then oxidized by air to generate isopropyl toluene hydroperoxide, which is acidolyzed into acetone and meta- and para-mixed cresols. After the mixed cresol and isobutylene react, the reaction products, meta- and para-cresol alkylates, are distilled and separated by the boiling point difference, and then the tert-butyl group is removed to obtain pure meta-cresol. 2. Under the catalysis of cobalt naphthenate, o-xylene is oxidized by air to obtain o-toluic acid, and then o-toluic acid is oxidized and decarboxylated to obtain meta-cresol using copper oxide and magnesium oxide as catalysts.  Product Detail
