Potassium carbonate, also known as potassium alkali, has the appearance of colorless crystals or white particles. It is easily soluble in water and its solution is strongly alkaline. After cooling the saturated aqueous solution, there are glassy monoclinic crystal hydrate 2K2CO3 · 3H2O crystals separated, the density is 2.043, and the crystal water is lost at 100 ° C. Insoluble in ethanol, acetone and ether.

It is highly hygroscopic and can absorb carbon dioxide and moisture when exposed to air, and is converted into potassium bicarbonate.
