1.Arbutin Overview
Arbutin is a glycoside that naturally occurs in various green plants such as wheat, pears, and Ericaceae family plants (e.g., bearberry). It is often used in skincare products for its whitening effects, as it inhibits the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme crucial to melanin synthesis.

2.Types of Arbutin
Arbutin has three main forms: α-arbutin, β-arbutin, and deoxyarbutin (D-arbutin):

Vietnam: Deoxyarbutin was banned in cosmetics as of July 2022.
European Union: Deoxyarbutin is prohibited in cosmetics (since July 2021) due to risks from hydroquinone formation.
In February 2023, the EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) established guidelines for the safe concentration of arbutin in cosmetics:

α-Arbutin: Maximum of 2% in facial creams and 0.5% in body lotions.
