                           Organotin compounds are metal organic compounds formed by the direct combination of tin and carbon. The general formula is RnSnX4- (n=1-4, R is an alkyl or aromatic group). There are two types of organotin compounds: alkyltin compounds and aromatic compounds. Its basic structure has monosubstituted, disubstituted, trisubstituted and tetrasubstituted (referring to the number of R). 10-20% of tin production is used to synthesize organotin compounds.

                     It is commonly used in the production of soft polyurethane foam. It is also used as a catalyst for polyurethane coatings, sealants and silicone rubber at room temperature.

                                 Because the effect of steric hindrance on catalytic activity decreases with increasing temperature, replacing a group with a smaller steric hindrance with an alkyl group with a larger steric hindrance can make the organotin compound have higher stability, resistance to hydrolysis and delayed catalytic activity. For example, replacing dibutyltin with dioctyltin can play a delayed catalytic role. Replacing dibutyltin dilaurate with dialkyltin dimaleate or dithiol alkyltin can improve hydrolysis stability. Tin mercaptides containing large alkyl groups have both high stability and delayed catalytic functions, such as dioctyltin mercaptan.
