    Polymer production
    This is the primary application area of propylene. Through polymerization reactions, propylene can generate various high-molecular materials:
    Polypropylene (PP): Propylene undergoes catalytic polymerization to form polypropylene, which is one of the most widely produced general-purpose plastics globally, and is widely used in packaging materials (such as plastic bags, plastic bottles), household appliances components, automotive parts, medical devices, fiber products (such as non-woven fabric), etc.
    Propylene copolymers: By copolymerizing with other monomers such as ethylene, specific properties can be achieved for the copolymers, which are used to improve the toughness, transparency, etc. of plastics.
    Synthesis of organic chemical intermediates
    Propylene is the raw material for the production of various important chemical intermediates, which are further used to manufacture various chemicals:
    Acrylonitrile: Propylene reacts with ammonia and oxygen to form acrylonitrile, which is a key raw material for synthesizing acrylic fiber, nitrile rubber, ABS resin (acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene copolymer).
    Epichlorohydrin: Propylene can be oxidized to obtain epichlorohydrin, which is mainly used to produce polyurethane foam, polyether polyols, propylene glycol, etc., and is applied in building insulation, furniture, coatings, etc.
    Isopropylbenzene: Propylene reacts with benzene to form isopropylbenzene, which can be further oxidized to obtain phenol and acetone, both of which are important organic chemical raw materials, used for producing resins, plastics, medicine, etc.
    Acrylic acid: Propylene oxidation generates acrylic acid, and its derivatives (such as acrylate) can be used to manufacture paints, adhesives, textile auxiliaries, superabsorbent polymers (high water-absorbing resin, used in diapers, etc.).
    Other chemical production
    Isopropanol: The hydration reaction of propylene generates isopropanol, which is widely used as a solvent in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and printing industries.
    Glycerol: Glycerol can be produced through the epichlorohydrin route of propylene, and is used in cosmetics, food, and medicine.
    Butanol and isobutanol: Propylene undergoes carbonyl synthesis reaction to generate butanal and isobutanal, which can be further hydrogenated to obtain butanol and isobutanol, used for manufacturing plasticizers, solvents, etc.
    Fuel sector
    Propylene can be used as a fuel additive, or mixed with other hydrocarbons for fuel production to improve the combustion performance of the fuel.

    Propylene is a colorless gas with a faint petroleum like odor. It is shipped as a liquefied gas under its own vapor pressure. For transportation it may be stenched. Contact with the liquid can cause frostbite. It is easily ignited. The vapors are heavier than air. Any leak can either be liquid or vapor. It can asphyxiate by the displacement of air. Under prolonged exposure to fire or intense heat the containers may rupture violently and rocket. It is used to make other chemicals. Can cause explosion.
