Menthyl lactate

Methyl lactate (ML) is a peppermint derivative that belongs to the category of long-acting cooling agents. It is a colorless liquid or white crystal that is insoluble in water but soluble in ether, ethanol, and fats. It has a weak cold aroma, green and yellow chrysanthemum or tobacco scent, with a very light mint coolness, sometimes reminiscent of the scent of tobacco and chamomile. In the past, formulators could only use mint to design cool products, with no other options. However, peppermint is very volatile and irritating, resulting in a strong and short cooling effect, which conceals the smell of essence due to its special mint flavor. Lactic acid menthol ester, a long-lasting and odorless cooling agent, is the best alternative to peppermint.
