    Product Overview

Loperamide Hydrochloride is a potent synthetic opioid receptor agonist specifically designed for peripheral action in the gastrointestinal tract. This high-purity pharmaceutical intermediate features a unique molecular structure that selectively targets μ-opioid receptors in the intestinal wall without significant central nervous system penetration, making it exceptionally safe and effective for antidiarrheal applications. The compound demonstrates excellent solubility in water and organic solvents, providing versatile formulation options for various dosage forms. Its exceptional chemical stability, high bioavailability, and well-established safety profile have established it as a gold standard in antidiarrheal therapy worldwide.

    Main Applications

    Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
Primary active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for over-the-counter and prescription antidiarrheal medications in tablet, capsule, and oral solution forms. Essential for treating acute and chronic diarrhea, including traveler's diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D), and AIDS-related diarrhea.

    Generic Drug Production
Key raw material for generic pharmaceutical manufacturers producing cost-effective antidiarrheal formulations. Its well-documented pharmacology and established manufacturing processes make it ideal for generic drug development and regulatory approval pathways.

    Veterinary Medicine
Widely used in veterinary pharmaceuticals for treating diarrhea in companion animals and livestock. Custom formulations for dogs, cats, and farm animals leverage its safety profile and efficacy in managing gastrointestinal disorders across species.

    Research & Development
Valuable research compound for studying opioid receptor pharmacology, gastrointestinal motility mechanisms, and drug delivery systems. Used in preclinical studies investigating novel antidiarrheal agents, combination therapies, and targeted intestinal drug delivery technologies.

    Medical Device Coatings
Emerging application in medical device coatings for gastrointestinal implants and devices requiring controlled drug release properties. Its stable crystalline structure enables incorporation into polymer matrices for sustained-release applications.

    Custom Synthesis & CRO Services
Essential starting material for contract research organizations (CROs) and pharmaceutical CMOs engaged in custom synthesis of loperamide derivatives, impurity standards, and novel analogs for structure-activity relationship studies.

    ECHEMI Editorial Reference
Loperamide hydrochloride is an opiate receptor agonist for the treatment of diarrhea.
Loperamide hydrochloride is a hydrochloride obtained by combining loperamide with one equivalent of hydrochloric acid. Used for treatment of diarrhoea resulting from gastroenteritis or inflammatory bowel disease. It has a role as a mu-opioid receptor agonist, an antidiarrhoeal drug and an anticoronaviral agent. It contains a loperamide(1+).|Loperamide Hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt form of loperamide, a synthetic, piperidine derivative and opioid agonist with antidiarrheal activity. Loperamide acts on the mu-receptors in the intestinal mucosa. This leads to a decrease in gastrointestinal motility by decreasing the circular and longitudinal smooth muscle activity of the intestinal wall. This slows intestinal transit and allows for more water and electrolyte absorption from the intestines. Loperamide is not significantly absorbed from the gut and does not cross the blood-brain barrier. Therefore it has no central nervous system effects.|One of the long-acting synthetic ANTIDIARRHEALS; it is not significantly absorbed from the gut, and has no effect on the adrenergic system or central nervous system, but may antagonize histamine and interfere with acetylcholine release locally.
