DSIP (delta-type sleep-inducing peptide) is a well-known neuroregulator. It is a natural nine-peptide that promotes sleep and also has many other physiological functions. It is usually present in the brain and can easily pass through the blood-brain barrier.

For people with sleep disorders (such as patients with insomnia), DSIP can help them fall asleep more easily, extend their sleep duration, enhance the depth and quality of their sleep, reduce the number of nighttime awakenings, and make their sleep more stable and comfortable.

DSIP has been described as a sleep-promoting substance. There is a modulating effect on sleep and wake functions with a greater activity in circumstances where sleep is disturbed. There are minimal effects in healthy subjects who are not suffering from sleep disturbance.

DSIP is thought to increase sleep regulation, reduce motor activity to improve deep sleep, stimulate ACTH and LH levels, and reportedly normalize blood pressure. DSIP can change the serum level of some hormones, such as adrenocorticotropic hormone, somatostatin, serotonin, etc.
