It has a role as a calcium channel blocker and an anti-asthmatic drug. It is a dicarboxylic acid and a member of chromones. It is a conjugate acid of a cromoglycate(1-).|A chromone complex that acts by inhibiting the release of chemical mediators from sensitized mast cells. It is used in the prophylactic treatment of both allergic and exercise-induced asthma, but does not affect an established asthmatic attack.|Cromolyn is a Mast Cell Stabilizer. The physiologic effect of cromolyn is by means of Decreased Histamine Release.|Cromolyn is a synthetic mast cell stabilizer with anti-inflammatory activity.
