     What is EDDS ?

EDDS is a green and biodegradable organic chelating agent. Its molecular structure contains multiple carboxyl ,  can form stable water-soluble complexes with various metal ions such as copper, iron, zinc, nickel, etc.

The core feature of EDDS is its environmental friendliness. Unlike traditional chelating agents such as EDTA, which are difficult to degrade naturally, EDDS can be rapidly decomposed by microorganisms, avoiding long-term accumulation in the environment and potential ecological risks. This advantage makes it an important alternative to EDTA.

    Mechanism

EDDS is a green and biodegradable chelating agent, and its core mechanism of action is chelation. Its molecular structure contains multiple carboxyl , which can act as multidentate ligands to form stable, water-soluble cyclic complexes (chelates) with metal ions (such as Cu ² ⁺, Ni ² ⁺, Zn ² ⁺, Pb ² ⁺, etc.) in solution.

The source and flow chart of EDDS

EDDS has no natural direct source and is an artificially synthesized green chelating agent. The mainstream production methods include chemical synthesis and biological synthesis. Our ethylenediamine disuccinic acid is synthesized by enzymatic method. The following is our production process diagram
