    4. Application

TEP can be used as plasticizer for plastics, cellulose derivatives and other polymers to enhance material flexibility and processability; as a flame retardant for plastics, textiles and coatings, it inhibits flammability by promoting char formation during combustion relying on its phosphorus content; it also acts as a versatile solvent in chemical synthesis, well-suited for the preparation of resins, lacquers and paints and capable of efficiently dissolving poorly soluble organic compounds, serves as an organic synthesis intermediate to produce organophosphates for pesticides, herbicides and other phosphorus-containing chemicals, and is applied in the formulation of high-performance hydraulic fluids and lubricants by virtue of its outstanding chemical stability and low volatility.
