Product Detail

Polyglycolide (PGA), also known as polyhydroxyacetic acid, is a biodegradable aliphatic polyester formed by the condensation polymerization of hydroxyacetic acid or the ring-opening polymerization of ethylene glycolate. Its CAS number is 26009-03-0 [1]. It appears as yellow or light brown granules, with a high degree of crystallinity and a melting point of approximately 229°C. High-molecular-weight PGA is insoluble in common organic solvents, while low-molecular-weight PGA is soluble [2]. The ester bonds of this polymer are prone to hydrolysis, making it highly biodegradable. It can degrade by 50% in 14 days and can be completely degraded in the body into carbon dioxide and water.
