It is the glycosylated version of chrysophanol, meaning it has an attached sugar molecule that changes how it dissolves and acts in biological systems.

In pharmacological and clinical research, Chrysophanol 8-O-glucoside exhibits a paradoxical dual profile, serving as both a therapeutic agent and a known source of plant-based toxicity.

Primary Biological and Therapeutic Functions

Potent Antiplatelet and Anticoagulant Activity: It is recognized as one of the most effective compounds in rhubarb for preventing blood clots. It strongly inhibits collagen- and thrombin-induced platelet aggregation.
