Torachrysone 8-O-glucoside

Orachrysone 8-O-glucoside (more commonly and correctly referred to in scientific literature as torachrysone 8-O-glucoside or torachrysone 8-glucoside) is a naturally occurring phenolic naphthalene glycoside found in plants like Rheum officinale (Rhubarb) and the seeds of Senna tora (formerly Cassia tora). It functions primarily as an anti-inflammatory agent, an antioxidant, and an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor. 

• Anti-Inflammatory Properties: It significantly dampens inflammation by blocking aldose reductase-catalyzed metabolism, which effectively prevents the accumulation of inflammatory lipid peroxidation products. It also reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β.
• Antioxidant Defense & Stress Response: It mitigates oxidative stress by reducing the production of cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). It plays a key role in plant secondary metabolism and defense mechanisms.
• Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibition: It exerts inhibitory activities against the α-glucosidase enzyme. By blocking this enzyme—which breaks down complex carbohydrates into glucose—it helps regulate blood sugar levels, making it a compound of interest for managing type 2 diabetes.
